Severe weather

Hey hey it’s severe weather for a new topic on my blog this time since it’s spring and severe weather happens a lot during the spring.

There are four types of severe weather which include tornadoes, hurricanes, thunderstorms, flooding and hail storms.

The first thing we are going to talk about is Thunderstorms.  What is a thunderstorm? A thunderstorm is produced by surface heating and any air that is available. A severe thunderstorm is much different than thunderstorms  and during severe thunderstorms, there is hail, winds over 50 mph and could possibly produce a tornado in them.

A thunderstorm watch is an area that thunderstorms could occur and Thunderstorm warnings are when severe thunderstorms have been spotted and you need to take shelter immediately and don’t go outside that someone I know who does this is  (Al D who takes pictures of lightning which is not supposed to be doing it).

Now we are going to talk about tornadoes that occur during  severe thunderstorms. Does everyone know that 1,200 tornadoes hit the United States each year and it’s true  and North Carolina gets a few a year.  Tornado Alley is usually in the Midwest states in the United States.

Tornadoes mostly happen during daytime hours but some happen in the overnight hours which has happened this past week in this year in 2021.

A Tornado watch might occur in your area.  A tornado watch means a tornadoes could be possible to form and the weather is perfect for it to happen.

A Tornado warning means a tornado has been spotted and they sound the sirens and you have to take shelter away from windows and find interior rooms away from the outside against the elements of a tornado.

Tornadoes are rated by how much damage they can do and the go from F0 to F5 which is the biggest tornado ever and can excel winds in F5 over 300 mph .

Now it’s time for Lightning talk and this includes you walkabout. Don’t go outside if you hear thunder and lightning is near and it could strike you or anything that is near by.

How is lightning formed you may ask?  Lightning is an electrical discharge that can form from a thundercloud  and then bounces to the ground. There are major different types of lightning which you may see during a thunderstorm. They are cloud to ground lightning strikes and cloud flashes.

Remember to stay indoors during a lightning storm.

Now it’s time to talk about flooding which occurs as well. What is flooding you may ask? Flooding occurs when the land gets to soaked and it can be caused by heavy thunderstorms. Flooding occurs in every state in the United States.

What are some areas that might flood during heavy thunderstorms which include rivers, roads, and low areas surrounding different water areas.

If a flash flood watch is issued by the national weather service in your state , it’s possible for heavy flooding to occur and Flash Flood warning means a it’s been reported and you need to move to higher grounds immediately and don’t drive on flooded roads it’s very dangerous and can cause cars to move quickly if your car is flooded .

Have a great week.

500th post

Hey everyone it’s Al with the very special edition the 500th post on my blog. This is a milestone that I have been trying to reach on my blog.  I am going to talk about the 500h post on my blog.let’s go back to 1999 on this day for the 500th post that happened in Oklahoma in Moore in 1999 with a devastating tornado.    On May 3,1999 , which has now been over 22 years ago.   aA massive E-F5 tornado with wind speeds over 300 mph hit Moore and Bridge Creek Oklahoma and this tornado touched down at 6:23 pm and this tornado stayed on the ground for 38 miles with tons of destruction and killing many people to be exact 38 people . When this tornado touched down on the ground another tornado started forming in the same storm system that had produced this massive tornado of E-F5 status but this tornado that touched down right after the first was rated as an E-F 0 tornado, that did minor damage compared to the massive one that stayed on the ground for 38 miles.   Wh...

Monday Color # 9

Hey Hey its Monday color # 9 for the year on my blog. I hope you are enjoying this fall weather and enjoying my weekly theme on Mondays for color on my blog this year for the entire year.  The color of the day for todays color post is a mixed variety of leaf  colors for this Mondays color of my blog , that I also took at the Eno River on a photo outing with the impeccable Al D.

Just a little snow

Hey hey it Al back with a snow pictures from earlier today which I used My iPhone XR for these photographs of the snow , since I did not use my camera for these shots. We were supposed to get 1-3 inches of snow accumulation in this area but we only ended up with a dusting of snow.  Some schools in the area of central North Carolina either did remote learning, delayed openings or closed for the day which one school system , did which was Chapel Hill Carrboro City schools. Even though, this was the only snow storm that Some snow stuck to the ground some did not stick to the ground due to the rain before that. In this shot, I did with the snow I used the snow as foreground element and used the remaining of the background to be blurred out to make an interesting photograph that came out really cool for this shot. I hope we might get another snow storm in February this year that might produce more snow and I can take even more pictures of it if is possible to happen this year in North C...
